FFD In Autodesk 3Ds Max

FFD in Autodesk 3Ds Max has three different types of modifiers. FFD 2x2x2 , 3x3x3 and 4x4x4 . FFD stands for Free Form Deformer. This modifier helps us immensely in the modeling department. FFD works on the vertex sub-object level of any geometry. Hence it is strongly recommend to have a sufficient amount of vertex in the geometry and also make your modifier stack clean so that your geometry don't have any dependency graph for its topology.

The three types are segregated according to their number of control points FFD 2x2x2 and 3x3x3 are fixed in number of control points whereas the 4x4x4 is flexible to increase or decrease in number. Though the basic structure of the FFD gizmo is box shaped you can conform this shape to the model according to your requirement. The video below will show you the details of the three different types of the modifier in details. Enjoy.
